The Minister of Transport and Communications, Aldo Prieto Barrera, met with the provincial mayor of Lamas, May Díaz Pérez, on March 24 to discuss strategic road projects for the San Martín province. The meeting focused on reviewing technical proposals aimed at closing connectivity gaps in rural areas and improving development opportunities for more than 30,000 residents.

The session included analysis of three main interventions for the renewal of small bridges in various districts of Lamas: Azanza Bridge in Alonso de Alvarado (20 meters long), Copalillo Bridge in Caynarachi (18 meters), and Ramón Castilla Bridge in Chumbaquihui, Pinto Recodo district (25 meters).

Mayor Díaz Pérez said these projects are essential to ensure safe travel in areas prone to heavy rains and stream overflows—conditions that currently limit the movement of people and goods. He also said that improved infrastructure will help integrate rural communities with major productive circuits in the San Martín region, supporting local economic activity.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), through Provías Descentralizado (PVD), will provide specialized technical assistance for rehabilitating these bridges. The meeting also addressed routine and periodic maintenance actions for roads across Lamas province to ensure their proper usability.

Minister Prieto concluded by reaffirming the ministry’s commitment “to strengthen safe and efficient road networks to improve connectivity, boost productive activity, and contribute to the development of all Peruvians.”
