The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on April 30 that it has restored traffic flow on the national route PE-5N in the Ucayali region, following emergency repairs at kilometer 352 in the San Alejandro sector along the Aguaytía – San Alejandro stretch. The ministry said this action followed damage caused by erosion of the road platform due to saturated soil from heavy rainfall.
This restoration is significant as it ensures continued connectivity and safety for travelers using a key corridor within Peru’s national road network. The MTC said its intervention included pavement cutting, excavation and removal of unstable material, elimination of excess debris, subgrade preparation, pouring of cyclopean concrete, leveling, and adjustment of the road surface to restore optimal conditions.
According to the MTC, these works were carried out directly by its Ucayali Zonal Unit with support from technical staff and heavy machinery. During repairs, vehicle passage was restricted but maintained with preventive signage and constant monitoring for user and worker safety. With completion of these efforts, normal transit conditions have resumed.
The Ministry operates under ministerial guidance as part of Peru’s executive branch with authority over transport and communications regulation according to its official website. It manages infrastructure projects like this one to promote national development through enhanced connectivity via multimodal approaches since beginning operations in 1969 according to its official website. The MTC also runs service centers such as MAC Lima Este and MAC Lima Sur for public access according to its official website.
The ministry says it aims to deliver safe, sustainable transport services supporting social wellbeing throughout Peru according to its official website. “El MTC y Provías Nacional reafirman su compromiso de atender de manera oportuna las emergencias viales, priorizando la seguridad de los ciudadanos y la conectividad de las regiones del país,” said ministry officials.
