The Ministry of Transport and Communications announced on March 20 that it is carrying out emergency work to restore full traffic flow on the El Descanso – Yanaoca section in the province of Canas, Cusco. The work is being conducted through Provías Nacional, focusing on a strategic road corridor.

The intervention targets the area between KM 07+250 and KM 07+270 in Central Patactira, Hansaya community, where a total collapse of the road platform had interrupted transit between the provinces of Canas and Canchis.

As part of the response, authorities are building a 30-meter dry wall and reconstructing the platform with rock fill after removing landslide debris. Currently, traffic is partially enabled via one lane while stabilization efforts continue in the affected sector.

According to Provías Nacional, the emergency was caused by weakening of the lower slope due to internal water seepage linked to seasonal rains. The intervention aims to restore safe travel conditions and reduce reliance on longer alternate routes.

The Ministry reported that so far this year, there have been 19 road emergencies attended to in Cusco region. Of these, normal traffic has been restored at ten sites while nine remain under restricted circulation as repair work continues.
