The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on March 27 that it is taking immediate action to address a road emergency at the Puente Alpash sector, located on the national route PE-14A in the Áncash region. The ministry said its goal is to restore traffic as quickly as possible.

This response comes after significant damage was reported at kilometer 111+580 of the bridge structure. The MTC said large mudslides have severely eroded the bridge supports, creating a risk of collapse and causing a complete interruption of transit in an area where there is no alternate route.

According to the ministry, technical staff—including engineers from Provías Nacional—were deployed immediately along with surveillance personnel and heavy machinery such as an excavator. These teams are working on site to manage the emergency promptly.

Initial efforts include clearing debris from the area and preparing a provisional passage so that transit can gradually resume along this important stretch of road. The MTC said these actions are part of its first steps toward resolving the situation.

The ministry stated it will continue permanent monitoring and carry out all necessary measures for dealing with road emergencies, emphasizing that user safety remains its top priority.
