The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on March 18 that Provías Descentralizado, through its Regional Competitiveness Road Infrastructure Program (Proregión), responded to 134 road emergencies so far this year across 14 Feeder Road Corridors in various regions.
These interventions restored vehicle traffic on departmental roads affected by landslides, mudslides, rockfalls, and other incidents that threatened road safety and the connectivity of hundreds of families.
The emergencies were addressed in the departments of Apurímac, Cusco, Madre de Dios, Huánuco, Huancavelica, Ayacucho, Ica, Pasco, Cajamarca, La Libertad, Moquegua, and Tacna. The corridors with the highest number of incidents included corridor No. 41 sections A and B (Moquegua) with 25 emergencies; corridor No. 9 (Pasco) with 21 emergencies; and both corridor No. 10 (Cajamarca) and corridor No. 6 sections A and B (Huancavelica – Ayacucho), each with 18 emergencies.
For each event that occurred, the consortia responsible for services along these corridors activated immediate response protocols by deploying specialized technical staff and heavy machinery to restore the roads as quickly as possible and minimize impact on users.
According to MTC officials, Proregión aims to strengthen regional competitiveness by improving and maintaining a safe, efficient, and resilient departmental road network. The program operates through agreements signed for the delegation of responsibilities regarding departmental roads.
