The Ministry of Transport and Communications announced on May 14 that the Port of Callao received nearly 6,000 vehicles in a single operation, marking the largest one-time unloading of vehicles ever recorded in Peru.

This milestone sets a new record for roll-on/roll-off cargo at Callao’s North Dock and demonstrates the port’s ability to handle large-scale operations amid rising demand for vehicles in the local market. The ministry said this achievement strengthens the automotive sector, which is among Peru’s main import categories.

Between 2025 and 2026, vehicle movement at Callao’s North Dock increased by approximately 28 percent due to greater commercial activity between Asia and Peru. The ministry highlighted that this growth was driven by enhanced trade links.

The unloading process required specialized logistics planning including real-time coordination, yard management, scheduled withdrawals, and synchronized procedures to ensure smooth operations. Each vehicle was handled under strict safety protocols with specialized personnel, ongoing monitoring, and adherence to international standards to maintain unit integrity throughout the process.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications operates as part of Peru’s executive branch with authority over transport and communications sectors. It aims to deliver safe, sustainable infrastructure services nationwide while supporting cultural wellbeing through improved connectivity and accessibility for communities across Peru. These initiatives are overseen by its minister and include public service centers such as MAC Lima Este and MAC Lima Sur according to the official website.

With this operation completed through its National Port Authority (APN), the ministry reaffirmed its commitment “to strengthening the national port system in order to consolidate Peru as a strategic hub in the region, boost foreign trade, and facilitate high-impact operations for key sectors of our national economy.”
