The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) reported on Mar. 19 that it is continuing efforts to improve road connectivity in the Huancavelica region, aiming to close infrastructure gaps and enhance the quality of life for local residents.

This initiative is significant as improved transportation infrastructure can facilitate economic development and better access to essential services for communities in Huancavelica.

Juan del Carmen Haro Muñoz, Vice Minister of Transport, met with Leoncio Huayllani Taype, regional governor of Huancavelica, to discuss updates on major road projects in the area. During the meeting, officials shared information about the status of the Definitive Study for improving the Huancavelica – Santa Inés (Section I) highway. This project is expected to benefit districts such as Santa Ana, Ascensión, and Huancavelica within Castrovirreyna province, as well as the district of Huancavelica itself.

It was announced that Report No. 4 for this key project is currently being developed and its approval is anticipated by the end of March. This milestone will allow subsequent phases of execution to proceed. Additionally, updates were provided regarding the Santa Inés – Rumichaca highway project, which is nearing the awarding phase for its implementation.

The development of the Huancavelica – Santa Inés highway falls under a cooperation agreement between Provías Nacional and the Regional Government of Huancavelica. The agreement aims to strengthen road connectivity and promote regional development.

The MTC reaffirmed its commitment “to promote road infrastructure projects that contribute to territorial development and the well-being of the population of Huancavelica.”
