The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on March 20 that it has made significant progress in acquiring land and clearing obstacles for the expansion of 16 airports across the country.
This development is important because it supports the modernization of national air infrastructure, which can improve regional connectivity and reduce delays in major airport projects.
According to the MTC, the Airports Group within the Directorate of Land Availability has been assigned a budget of S/ 58.5 million for these efforts. In the first two months of the year, more than S/ 7.25 million has been spent, representing an accumulated execution rate of 12.39% of its Modified Institutional Budget allocated for land acquisition and clearance activities related to airport projects.
The ministry said this performance reflects a results-oriented management approach that ensures timely availability of land needed for ongoing construction work. The MTC also noted that this reduces risks of delays in high-impact regional airport projects and strengthens air connectivity nationwide.
Significant progress has been reported in clearing obstacles at Breu, Arequipa, and Pucallpa airports, with completion scheduled for April, May, and July respectively. The ministry emphasized that acquiring land and removing interferences is essential to secure areas required for public infrastructure construction.
