The Ministry of Transport and Communications announced on Apr. 15 that the Superintendence of Land Transport of People, Cargo and Goods (Sutran) carried out more than 16,900 inspections on international transport across Peru during the first quarter of 2026.
These inspections are part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety, ensure compliance with regulations, and promote formalization within the sector. The actions took place from January 1 to March 31 at border crossings, logistics corridors, and main routes for foreign trade—areas with high traffic for cargo and passenger transport.
Inspectors focused on monitoring international passenger vehicles, goods carriers, and hazardous materials transports. They checked required documentation as well as adherence to safety standards under current regulations. As a result of these operations, authorities recorded 16,540 compliant reports indicating a high level of operator compliance. However, there were also 360 non-compliant reports mainly linked to violations in key southern corridors.
Puno saw the highest number of interventions with over 6,700 control actions due to its location at an international border. Tumbes and Tacna followed as important regions for international transit and foreign trade activities.
