The Ministry of Transport and Communications announced on May 18 that the Superintendence of Land Transportation of People, Cargo and Goods (Sutran) has intensified its inspections of driver training schools nationwide, carrying out 232 interventions so far in 2026 to verify compliance with minimum operational requirements.
As a result, authorities ordered the closure of 12 locations found operating without meeting the standards set by current regulations. This measure aims to reduce risks in new driver training and strengthen road safety.
Of the total inspections conducted, officials said that 211 were scheduled operations while another 21 were unannounced visits. Inspectors reviewed administrative documents, operational conditions, and technical requirements at each school. These actions led to the issuance of 139 visit certificates, 44 verification records, and 54 inspection reports.
The regions with the highest number of interventions included Lima, La Libertad, Junín, Puno, and Arequipa. These areas have a high concentration of authorized schools as well as increasing demand for driver education services.
Sutran said that monitoring these establishments is essential for reducing road accidents because proper driver training includes not only technical skills but also knowledge about traffic rules and responsible behavior on public roads. “Supervision of these establishments is a key measure to reduce road accidents since adequate driver training involves both technical knowledge and learning about traffic regulations,” Sutran said in its statement.
The Ministry operates under Peru’s executive branch with authority over transport regulation; it delivers safe infrastructure to promote national integration according to the official website.
