The Ministry of Transport and Communications announced on May 4 that the northern section of the new Chiclayo Bypass – Zona Norte of the Autopista del Sol in Lambayeque has reached a progress rate of 95.7 percent. The update came after a meeting between Minister Aldo Martín Prieto Barrera and Congresswoman María Acuña Peralta, where they reviewed major infrastructure developments in the region.
This section spans more than 12 kilometers from the Lambayeque Interchange to the San José turnoff, with ongoing works including bridges, an interchange, signage, and other interventions aimed at improving interprovincial mobility and strengthening road safety conditions. Complementary actions are also underway to enhance infrastructure functionality, such as evaluating technical solutions for the intersection with Prolongación Bolognesi Avenue as part of coordination efforts with the concessionaire.
Progress continues on the southern section of Chiclayo Bypass as well. Engineering for this segment is complete, and steps are being taken to clear areas and prepare socio-environmental management documents for review by SENACE under current regulations.
Other projects include work on Juana Ríos Bridge along route PE-6A (Chiclayo–Chongoyape–Puente Cumbil), where abutments, piles, walls, and geotechnical studies are underway. Development also continues at Puerto Eten Port Terminal with an approved master plan that includes improving logistics corridors from Olmos through expanded access roads. Additionally, modernization efforts at Chiclayo International Airport involve investments exceeding $440 million for a new passenger terminal covering 43,000 square meters; cargo facilities; control tower; platforms; taxiways; runway expansion; and projected capacity for up to 2.2 million passengers per year.
The ministry is preparing a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS) while providing technical assistance for Chiclayo’s Route Regulatory Plan (PRR). These initiatives reflect ongoing commitments to closing transport infrastructure gaps while prioritizing investments that consolidate connectivity and support sustainable economic development in northern Peru.
The Ministry supports cultural and social wellbeing by improving national connectivity through enhanced transport infrastructure; operates service centers like MAC Lima Este and MAC Lima Sur to improve public access; functions as part of Peru’s executive branch overseeing transport policy nationwide; delivers safe, sustainable services promoting integration according to its official website.
