The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on March 23 that it has restored traffic in the Collota sector of route PE-3N by installing a new modular bridge. The previous structure had collapsed on March 11, prompting immediate action from the ministry through Provías Nacional.

This development is important for maintaining connectivity in the region and ensuring safe travel along this section of the National Road Network. Restoring transit quickly after such incidents helps minimize disruptions for residents and businesses that rely on this route.

According to MTC, work began right away with the transportation of metal structures, as well as deployment of personnel and machinery to the site. Assembly of the new bridge started on March 13 while provisional measures were put in place, including installation of 52-inch TMC culverts to allow temporary passage for vehicles.

The project included building access roads, redirecting river flow, protecting bridge abutments, adding signage, and implementing road safety measures. Work continued without interruption until completion on March 20. Afterward, load tests were conducted and final signage was installed to ensure safe conditions for all vehicles.

A trial period began on March 21 before full reopening to vehicular traffic took place on March 23. With this effort completed, MTC said it remains committed to responding immediately to road emergencies by providing solutions that restore transit as quickly as possible.
