The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) provided technical assistance to more than 30 mayors and district officials from seven regions through a working group on Mar. 30. The initiative aimed to advance a portfolio of road infrastructure projects.
This effort was coordinated with the Association of District Municipalities of Peru (Amudip) and the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM). It focused on guiding authorities in formulating, evaluating, and managing projects related to small bridge renovations and rural roads, which are considered important for connectivity and local economic development.
Officials participating in the working group represented Amazonas, Áncash, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Puno, and San Martín. Technical support was provided by professionals from Provías Descentralizado, who worked directly with participants to review project proposals and address obstacles. The aim was also to help these initiatives become eligible for supplementary credit by following legal requirements.
According to the MTC statement, these actions are part of ongoing efforts “to promote efficient management of transport infrastructure and contribute to closing gaps in road connectivity across the country through strategic coordination with local authorities for better territorial integration.” The ministry said this support helps boost local economies by reducing transportation time and costs for rural producers while ensuring remote populations have access to basic services such as health care and education.
