The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on Apr. 8 that it is moving forward with the construction of the Central de Emergencias 911, a new emergency response center located on Av. El Sol in Chorrillos, next to the National Emergency Operations Center (COEN). The project aims to modernize and unify emergency services for Lima Metropolitana and Callao.
The inspection was led by Ana Reátegui Napurí, chief advisor to the ministerial office at MTC, along with Michael Guevara Varela, executive director of Pronatel, and representatives from the World Bank. The visit focused on reviewing construction progress and discussing upcoming phases of the project.
According to MTC, “the future Central 911 will concentrate into a single number calls currently handled by Peru’s National Police (105), Volunteer Firefighters Corps (116), SAMU (106), and Linea 100 from Programa Nacional Aurora.” This integration is expected to allow for faster, more coordinated responses during emergencies.
The new facility will have three floors plus a basement. It will be able to accommodate over 90 operators and 100 dispatchers. The building will also include a crisis room, control room equipped with a video wall made up of forty-eight fifty-inch monitors, geolocation systems for calls, integrated surveillance cameras, as well as radio communications alongside cellular and analog telephony—all managed through an Emergency Care and Management System (SAGE).
