The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on March 31 that it has intensified inspections at Jorge Chávez International Airport in anticipation of increased passenger traffic during the upcoming Easter holidays. The inspections are being carried out by the Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC), which is responsible for overseeing aviation safety in Peru.

The heightened oversight aims to ensure that passengers traveling domestically or abroad over the holiday period have access to efficient infrastructure and safe conditions during their journeys. The DGAC’s actions are part of its Decentralized Annual Risk-Based Surveillance Plan, which seeks to identify, evaluate, and control operational risks at airports across the country.

Inspectors conducted audits focusing on several key areas: operations, airworthiness, aerodromes, air navigation, and aviation security. Their review included various sections within Jorge Chávez International Airport such as passenger screening zones, cabin baggage inspection areas, boarding and disembarkation zones, aircraft platforms, and the Platform Guidance System room where aircraft parking positions are monitored and movement instructions are issued.

Additionally, procedures for preventing the transport of dangerous goods were examined along with contingency plan execution and security protocols for passenger entry. Other related activities were also reviewed as part of these comprehensive checks.

According to the MTC statement, these efforts will continue throughout airports nationwide as part of ongoing measures designed to benefit travelers.
