The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), through the Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics (DGAC), conducted a comprehensive aeronautical safety inspection at Chiclayo airport as part of its decentralized oversight plan, according to a March 27 announcement.
The inspection aims to ensure safe operations throughout the country. The effort was led by the Directorate of Aeronautical Safety, which monitors on-site that air operations strictly comply with current regulations and established technical standards. This is intended to protect passengers, crew members, and the entire aeronautical system.
During the process, DGAC technical teams evaluated five key areas: flight operations—including procedures, training, and license validity; airworthiness—reviewing aircraft condition, maintenance, and records; aerodrome conditions—such as runways, taxiways, signage, and visual aids; air navigation services—including control tower functions and communications; and aviation security—which covers access controls and security protocols.
Specific checks were also carried out on airport infrastructure. These included examining runway lights and approach systems, internal and external signage, ground support equipment functionality, as well as communication systems in the control tower. For inspected aircrafts, compliance with airworthiness requirements was verified along with documentation validity and operational readiness of mandatory equipment. The qualifications of pilots and crew were also checked.
These actions fall within DGAC’s supervisory powers over civil aviation activities in Peru. This includes unrestricted access to aircrafts or facilities for verifying operational safety standards are met. As part of this visit to Chiclayo airport, MTC’s technical team held meetings with operators and local personnel to gather information for improvements in coordination across regional aviation activities.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment “to guarantee operational safety throughout the national territory through ongoing supervision actions that strengthen civil aviation while protecting all users of the aeronautical system.”
