The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) participated in the presentation of the international study “The impact of Internet Para Todos (IPT) in providing connectivity in Peru”. The event, held to analyze the results of the Rural Mobile Infrastructure Operator (OIMR) model, also aimed to create a strategic dialogue about closing the digital gap across the country.
The meeting was led by Aldo Martín Prieto Barrera, Minister of Transport and Communications, and brought together leaders from the private sector, multilateral organizations, industry groups, and academia. During the event, Raúl Katz, an international expert from Columbia University, presented his research findings and said that the data are essential for designing public policies that accelerate rural connectivity and promote competitiveness in regions most in need.
“Connectivity is no longer just a technological issue; it is a strategic priority for our country’s development. Today we know that the digital gap not only separates territories but also separates opportunities for those seeking access to education and health,” said Prieto Barrera.
As part of its goals, MTC projects that by July 2026 more than 68,000 Peruvians from 264 rural and remote localities will have access for the first time to 4G mobile services. This progress represents an investment exceeding 188 million soles through a coverage-based concession mechanism.
The ministry maintains its focus on strengthening collaboration between government and private enterprise to ensure technology becomes a real tool for inclusion, aiming for a more integrated Peru with equal opportunities for all citizens.
