The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) held a meeting on Apr. 1 with the regional governor of Huánuco to discuss key road infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity and ensuring safe travel in the region.
The discussion focused on addressing urgent road issues caused by recent heavy rains, as well as advancing both ongoing and planned transportation projects. Juan del Carmen Haro Muñoz, Vice Minister of Transport, met with Governor Antonio Pulgar to coordinate immediate actions for emergency response and project acceleration.
During the meeting, MTC reported that through Provías Nacional and Provías Descentralizado, it is responding to emergencies along several major routes: Cerro de Pasco – Huánuco – Tingo María, Huánuco – La Unión – Huallanca, and Rancho Panao. These corridors have been affected by seasonal rainfall.
Officials also discussed progress on an agreement with the Peruvian Army for maintenance work on the Dv. Pomabamba – Sihuas – Huacrachucho – San Pedro de Chonta – Uchiza highway. This is expected to help keep the route operational. Regarding section three of the Oyón – Ambo highway, technical approval is anticipated by July this year. Preparations are also underway for installing a modular bridge at Muyuna; structures are ready while contracting for their transport and installation proceeds.
In addition, updates were provided about other initiatives such as land assessment work for the New Tingo María Airport project—a necessary step before drafting technical plans—and ongoing efforts in Corridor 22A (PROREGIÓN 2) where emergency measures are being coordinated in Huacaybamba province. Corridor 22B awaits approval from the Inter-American Development Bank before moving forward; meanwhile, bidding will soon open for work on Corridor 23.
According to MTC officials, these steps reaffirm their commitment to enhancing road infrastructure and supporting safe travel throughout Huánuco.
