The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on March 18 that it will coordinate multisectoral efforts with various executive sectors to promote bridge projects and improve a national road, aiming to enhance connectivity for indigenous communities in the central jungle region.

These initiatives are intended to ensure efficient transportation and vehicle flow in strategic areas. Minister Aldo Martín Prieto Barrera held a working meeting with Congresswoman Marleni Portero and Digna Sucari, mayor of the District Municipality of Río Tambo and president of the Northern VRAEM Municipal Commonwealth (NORVRAEM). During the meeting, participants requested intervention for the renewal of a small bridge in the native community of Betania, which connects to Chauja in Satipo, Junín. They also called for prioritizing improvements to the Puerto Ocopa – Atalaya road, which has been affected by recent climate emergencies.

Prieto said that through direct coordination with the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), efforts will be made to secure funding for these projects within budget planning. The MTC will also work with other executive branches to include the Puerto Ocopa – Atalaya section among priority works outlined in an action plan for the area.

“Our disposition is to coordinate technical efforts with local governments and MEF so that these requests move forward effectively. The objective is to evaluate mechanisms that allow us to complete safe infrastructure works resilient to climate change, responding to the needs of indigenous peoples,” said Minister Aldo Martín Prieto Barrera.

The MTC stated it remains committed to addressing requests from local governments by maintaining an open-door policy for technical assistance and monitoring projects that support development in remote areas.
