The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) held a meeting on March 31 with the Provincial Mayor of Tocache, Vidal Gonzales Zavaleta, and civil society representatives to discuss progress on road infrastructure projects in Tocache, San Martín region.

The meeting focused on the National Road Network that crosses the urban center of Tocache and its surrounding areas. During the session, Provías Nacional presented information about ongoing work on the Tingo María – Tocache – Tarapoto highway. Officials said there is an active road maintenance contract using a ‘service levels’ model, which involves activities to keep the road up to contract standards. They also announced plans for a Road Management Plan aimed at reducing dust along this route.

The MTC outlined new initiatives under development that go beyond routine maintenance and include permanent investments intended to improve connectivity within central Tocache. The ministry will also organize another technical meeting to provide further details about intervention levels under the current maintenance contract.

Another topic discussed was illegal occupation along road rights-of-way. Authorities urged residents to respect these boundaries for traffic safety and to preserve space for future projects.

The MTC said it remains committed to improving transportation links and advancing road projects designed to enhance quality of life for people in Tocache and throughout San Martín.
