The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on March 26 that it is working to improve emergency response efforts and ensure continued transportation services in areas affected by landslides and other events, particularly during the first months of the year when such incidents increase due to weather conditions. The MTC, through its executing unit Provías Descentralizado (PVD), is supporting regional and local governments by providing fuel for road emergency response.

This announcement comes after Aldo Prieto Barrera, Minister of Transport and Communications, met with Matías López Vargas, mayor of the district of San Jerónimo in Luya province, Amazonas. The meeting focused on addressing recent emergencies impacting roads within the district.

During their discussion, both parties reviewed major issues affecting the local road network and examined how these problems hinder transportation as well as economic and social activities for residents. The Gerencia de Intervenciones Especiales at Provías Descentralizado will coordinate technical assistance to assess the feasibility of replacing a bridge along the Panamal – Cocapata – Cocapata (Puente Cocapata) rural route in San Jerónimo.

The MTC said it remains committed to working closely with local governments “to implement more efficient intervention mechanisms” as part of a results-oriented approach aimed at closing infrastructure gaps in transport.

Both authorities agreed on “the importance of maintaining ongoing coordination” to monitor interventions and ensure sustainable solutions for people living in San Jerónimo.
