The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on March 27 that it has delivered 127,264 gallons of fuel to address 268 road emergencies in 16 regions across the country. The distribution was carried out through its executing unit, Provías Descentralizado (PVD).

This supply required an investment of more than S/2.3 million and enabled regional governments and provincial and district municipalities to use their machinery for cleaning and clearing roads affected by landslides and heavy rains. The initiative helped restore vehicle traffic in areas impacted by these events.

The regions receiving the largest amounts of fuel included Ayacucho with 20,888 gallons for handling 50 emergencies, San Martín with 19,823 gallons for addressing 48 emergencies, La Libertad with 13,529 gallons for attending to 38 emergencies, and Piura with 23,672 gallons used in response to 37 emergencies. Other departments such as Áncash, Amazonas, Cajamarca, Huancavelica Junín, Puno, Moquegua, Lambayeque, Ica, Madre de Dios and Pasco also received supplies.

Municipalities in regions that have not yet requested this support are reminded they can start the application process after evaluation at the Provías Descentralizado Zonal Units. The MTC clarified that fuel provision is available throughout the year; it is not necessary for an affected road to be located in a zone officially declared under emergency status.

Provías Descentralizado also offers training sessions and technical assistance to regional and local governments so they can make optimal requests for fuel when needed.

“With these actions,” the ministry said in its statement,”the Ministry of Transport and Communications through Provías Descentralizado reaffirms its commitment to ensuring road connectivity and access to essential services.”
