The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on Apr. 24 that it is coordinating efforts to recover transitability along the Echarati – Palma Real – Kepashiato – Kimbiri road in the province of La Convención. The announcement follows a meeting between Aldo Prieto Barrera, Minister of Transport and Communications, Alex Curi León, mayor of La Convención, and Oswaldo Torres Cruz, mayor of Echarati.
The condition of this key roadway has raised concerns due to delays in selecting a contractor for conservation services. These delays have negatively affected maintenance and hindered safe passage for local residents. During the meeting, authorities agreed to work together with Provías Nacional (PVN), including its Cusco and VRAEM units, as well as municipal governments from Echarati and La Convención. The goal is immediate intervention at critical points along the route to improve accessibility.
As part of these efforts, officials planned a technical field inspection to assess the actual state of the road and identify specific measures needed to restore transit for people living in La Convención. “It was agreed to coordinate efforts between MTC through Provías Nacional with its zonal units in Cusco and VRAEM as well as municipalities from Echarati and La Convención in order to intervene immediately at critical points along the road,” said Prieto Barrera.
Provías Nacional is currently carrying out emergency works on sections most affected by damage. Additional steps will be taken soon: “It was also announced that maintenance actions will be strengthened so that short-term transitability can be guaranteed,” said Prieto Barrera.
