The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on Apr. 29 the completion of the ninth edition of the Modern Port Management Course, part of the TrainForTrade Port Management Program by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
This initiative is intended to strengthen the skills of professionals in Peru’s port sector. According to MTC, 21 participants from various areas in the port industry received certification after completing eight specialized modules over two years. The curriculum covered topics such as international trade and transport, organization and operation of port systems, and challenges facing sustainable ports.
The program is organized through language networks in Spanish, English, French, and Portuguese. It includes instructors from public, private, and international organizations across Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia, Africa, and Europe. Additional components include workshops for teaching methods, technical assistance sessions, conferences with experts, specialized publications, scholarships for study abroad opportunities in international ports.
Since its global launch in 1996—and introduction to Peru in 2009—the TrainForTrade program has benefited more than 230 professionals nationally. The collaboration between UNCTAD and Peru’s National Port Authority supports ongoing efforts to strengthen Peru’s national port system.
The MTC said this initiative “strengthens professional capacities with tools aimed at optimizing port management,” contributing directly to greater efficiency and competitiveness within Peru’s port sector through national and international partnerships.
