The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) began emergency works with heavy machinery on Mar. 30 for the first stage of the Cutervo–Chiple section. The main goal is to restore safe and smooth traffic along this important road, which was declared an emergency zone earlier in March.
The inspection was led by President José María Balcázar Zelada, accompanied by Prime Minister, MTC Minister Aldo Prieto, other state ministers, local authorities, and representatives from rural patrol groups. Attendees observed the deployment of machinery and verified commitments to rehabilitate the Sierra longitudinal highway.
During the event, Prieto announced that a second phase will begin in coming weeks along the corridor connecting Cochabamba, Cutervo, and Chiple. This next stage will cover more than 18 additional kilometers. He also said that recovery work would resume on the Sócota road—a 24-kilometer stretch affected by heavy rains in the region.
“With a road in better condition, our farmers’ products can reach markets faster and more safely. This will help improve family incomes and strengthen the local economy,” said Prieto.
For this year, over S/601 million has been allocated for infrastructure modernization projects across Cajamarca. The MTC plans to move from emergency responses toward permanent solutions by starting comprehensive paving works within this year.
