The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on March 31 the approval of the final study needed to finish the Oyón–Ambo road, specifically for section one: Oyón to Desvío Cerro de Pasco. This project is considered strategic for improving road integration and supporting national development.
According to MTC, the approval was granted through Directoral Resolution No. 159-2026-MTC/20, giving authorization for work on a key 48-kilometer stretch. The ministry said this will allow resumption and completion of pending construction with an estimated investment of S/254.8 million.
The Oyón–Ambo road serves as a vital link connecting the regions of Lima, Pasco, and Huánuco. Completion is expected to make travel easier for people in these areas, improve transportation of goods, and support economic activities in central Peru’s highlands while strengthening connections with the jungle region.
MTC said that the approved technical plan includes all necessary works to finish the infrastructure so it meets proper standards for traffic flow, safety, and durability. These improvements are intended to bring direct benefits to thousands of residents who rely on this route.
With this decision, MTC said it reaffirms its commitment to unlocking priority projects and closing gaps in road infrastructure as part of efforts to drive economic growth and improve quality of life across affected regions.
