The Ministry of Transport and Communications announced on Apr. 29 that it is taking action to address the situation of the Puerto Ocopa–Atalaya road corridor following a recent emergency affecting this route.
Minister Aldo Martín Prieto Barrera met with Francisco Mendoza, the provincial mayor of Atalaya, to discuss the current state of the 142-kilometer corridor and outline measures being implemented for its recovery. The ministry said that work will be carried out in three sections. One section has already been awarded and maintenance activities have started, while contracting processes are underway for the other two sections with plans to begin work as soon as possible.
During the meeting, officials also discussed efforts to maintain a local road connecting Maldonadillo and Mapalca. A team from Provías Descentralizado is scheduled to visit the area next Monday to help ensure timely maintenance.
The ministry reported that construction is being planned for three small bridges along these routes, with two already receiving favorable opinions needed for their execution. “The sector informed that it is managing the construction of three minor bridges, two of which already have favorable opinions, which will allow progress in their prompt execution,” according to officials present at the meeting.
