The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on Apr. 28 that it will continue uninterrupted maintenance work throughout 2026 on the left side of the Carretera Central, despite heavy rainfall in the Junín region.

This effort aims to ensure road safety and maintain traffic flow along a critical national route. The MTC said that crews are currently working on a two-kilometer stretch between kilometers 16 and 18, covering areas such as Quebrada Honda and San Agustín de Cajas in Huancayo. These interventions focus on restoring the roadway and improving conditions for users.

In San Agustín de Cajas, cleaning operations have cleared drainage ditches along both sides of the highway, reaching an advance of ten kilometers so far. The ministry said these actions help prevent water accumulation that could damage asphalt surfaces or disrupt travel. Deep patching and continued ditch cleaning are considered essential by officials to reduce rain impacts and preserve infrastructure.

“The MTC reaffirms its commitment to continue maintaining the left margin of Carretera Central throughout all of 2026, guaranteeing connectivity along this important national road,” according to a statement from the ministry. The ministry also called on citizens not to block drainage systems because their proper functioning is key for preventing deterioration and ensuring durability.

It operates service centers like MAC Lima Este and MAC Lima Sur to improve public access according to its official website.
