The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on March 27 that it will increase permanent supervision at key entry and exit points to Lima during Holy Week. The measure is part of the “Viaje Seguro Semana Santa 2026” plan, with staff from the Superintendence of Land Transport of People, Cargo and Goods (Sutran) stationed in Ancón, Pucusana, and Corcona.
These areas are considered strategic access routes to the capital and typically see high vehicle traffic during weekends and holidays. The continuous presence of inspectors aims to strengthen monitoring of traffic regulations and prevent risky situations on the National Road Network.
Sutran personnel will inspect interprovincial buses, cargo vehicles, and private cars. They will check service authorization, required documentation, compliance with speed limits, and technical conditions of vehicles. Special attention will be given to detecting informal transport operations—identified as a main threat to user safety—and ensuring adherence to important measures such as seat belt use and passenger boarding at authorized locations.
The actions will be coordinated with the National Police of Peru and other relevant authorities in order to provide comprehensive control at city access points. This collaboration seeks also to ensure prompt response in case any incidents occur.
According to MTC officials, maintaining a permanent presence not only allows for enforcement but also enables guidance for drivers and users by offering recommendations for safe travel. The ministry urges citizens to plan their trips ahead of time, avoid using informal transport services, and comply with official regulations.
