The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on Apr. 1 the launch of the First Public Broadcasting Contest 2026, which will award 49 radio frequencies in both Frequency Modulation (FM) and Medium Wave (OM) bands across 20 locations in 12 regions. The initiative aims to strengthen diversity and expand broadcasting services.

The new frequencies are intended for educational, commercial, and community use. This is expected to broaden content offerings, promote informational plurality, and reinforce local identity for citizens.

Locations included in this call for applications are Huaral–Chancay (Lima), Chincha (Ica), Urubamba–Anta–Chincheros (Cusco), Chachapoyas and Bagua–Bagua Grande (Amazonas), Tarapoto–Lamas and Juanjui–Bellavista (San Martín), as well as Trujillo–Virú–Ascope–Gran Chimú–Julcán–Otuzco (La Libertad), among others.

Aldo Prieto Barrera, Minister of Transport and Communications, said that this process will expand access to radio authorizations nationwide. “We seek for more voices to contribute diverse, quality content with local identity, strengthening broadcasting for the benefit of the population,” Prieto Barrera said.

According to the schedule released by MTC, application guidelines will be available from April 1 through April 22 at a cost of S/30 including tax. The Final Evaluation Act will be published on June 18, followed by a public awarding event on June 26.

The process will be managed by the Proposal Reception and Evaluation Committee from the Vice Ministry of Communications. MTC says this ensures a technical, transparent, and fair procedure. With this announcement, MTC reiterates its commitment to promoting more inclusive and representative broadcasting throughout Peru.
