The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on March 31 that there are 724 authorized bus terminals and route stations available for passenger transport across national, regional, and provincial routes during the upcoming Holy Week holiday.

This information is significant as many travelers plan trips during the extended holiday period. The availability of these authorized facilities aims to ensure safe and regulated travel throughout the country.

According to the General Directorate of Transport Authorizations at MTC, out of the total infrastructure, 523 are bus terminals while 201 are designated as route stations. Bus terminals are public or private spaces designed for buses operated by licensed transport companies to enter and exit. These locations handle passenger boarding, disembarking, cargo operations, and commercial stops along routes. Route stations serve as points along main roads where passengers can board or leave buses during journeys or connect with other transport services.

The most recent data from 2026 shows that Lima has the highest number of these facilities with a total of 107 bus terminals and route stations. Other regions with significant numbers include Piura (86), Áncash (79), Arequipa (48), and Huánuco (45).

To operate legally, all such installations must have a Technical Enabling Certificate granted by competent authorities. They also need to meet minimum standards for safety and comfort such as access for people with reduced mobility, waiting rooms, boarding areas, sanitary services, and maneuvering yards to allow safe movement of buses.

The MTC reminded users that they can find the location of these infrastructures using the “Viaje Seguro” mobile application developed by Sutran—the Superintendence of Land Transport for People, Cargo, and Goods—which provides georeferenced information about authorized terminals and route stations. Additionally, Sutran is responsible for supervising national land transportation services including oversight over these infrastructures to ensure passenger safety.
