The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), together with Promovilidad and the Provincial Municipality of Piura, held a series of participatory sessions in April to collect feedback from citizens about urban transit in Piura.
These events aimed to involve students from schools and universities as well as civil society representatives. Organizers said the main goal was to listen directly to residents about their daily mobility challenges so that the pre-investment study for the Integrated Transport System (SIT) in Piura would better reflect local needs.
Participants used interactive methods during these sessions to share experiences, identify obstacles, and suggest improvements for the city’s urban transport system. Information gathered during these activities is expected to help shape an inclusive planning process by incorporating key community voices. The sessions also included presentations on project objectives and anticipated benefits related to safer, more organized, and sustainable mobility in Piura.
The MTC supports cultural and social wellbeing by improving national connectivity through enhanced transport and communications infrastructure, according to the official website. The ministry operates service centers such as MAC Lima Este and MAC Lima Sur with the aim of improving public access across Peru. It functions as part of Peru’s executive branch with authority over both transport and communications sectors.
The ministry delivers safe, sustainable, and inclusive infrastructure services nationwide; it operates under ministerial guidance; serves communities throughout Peru; manages infrastructure for national development using multimodal approaches; partners with other public entities; and began operations in 1969 according to its official website.
Promovilidad said these actions reaffirm its commitment “with a participatory management approach,” promoting dialogue as a key element for developing solutions that improve urban transportation quality.
