The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on March 27 that it has reached agreements with regional, local, and social organization representatives from Huancavelica to move forward with key road projects in the region. The meeting was led by Juan Haro Muñoz, Deputy Minister of Transport.

The discussion focused on accelerating the improvement of the Huancavelica – Santa Inés highway and the Santa Inés – Rumichaca route. Other priorities included technical documentation for sections such as Santa Inés – Pámpano and Chincha – Desvío Huachos, as well as ongoing maintenance for the Huancavelica – Santa Inés corridor.

According to MTC officials, Provías Nacional will request funding from the Ministry of Economy and Finance in an upcoming supplemental credit for 2026 to support the approved technical plans for the first section of the Huancavelica – Santa Inés project. Authorities also confirmed a budget allocation exceeding S/185 million for improving the Santa Inés – Rumichaca road, which is currently undergoing a selection process.

Technical progress updates indicate that approval for the Santa Inés – Pámpano section is expected by October 2026. The study phase for Chincha – Desvío Huachos is projected to finish in April this year, pending necessary authorizations supported by local authorities.

As part of these agreements, both local officials and members of the Committee Pro Asfaltado de la Carretera have decided to lift their protest action. They reiterated their commitment to continue working together with MTC so that these infrastructure projects can benefit residents.

The ministry said it remains committed to advancing transportation infrastructure in Huancavelica through ongoing dialogue and coordination with all stakeholders.
