The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation announced on May 1 that more than 4,000 families in the district of Colasay, located in the province of Jaén (Cajamarca), have received individual rural property titles. The event was held as part of a ceremony led by the ministry and coordinated with the Regional Government of Cajamarca.

This distribution is intended to provide legal security over land for small-scale farmers and their families. With official recognition of their property rights, beneficiaries can now access credit, government programs, and services aimed at improving agricultural productivity and living standards.

A total of 4,388 individual rural property titles were distributed during the ceremony. The initiative is part of the Third Stage Rural Land Cadastre, Titling and Registration Project (PTRT3), which is managed by the Sectoral Project Management Executing Unit. This project supports formalization efforts across ten regions in Peru. “The best thing is that it was free and now we have peace of mind for our families,” said one beneficiary farmer during the event.

According to the official website, the Ministry promotes cultural and social well-being through rural inclusion and food security efforts throughout Peru. The ministry operates from its central headquarters in Jesús María as well as decentralized offices nationwide according to its official website. It functions within Peru’s Executive Branch according to its official website.

Since 2021, a total of 32,376 individual rural property titles have been registered in provinces such as Cajabamba, Cajamarca, Chota, Contumazá, Cutervo, San Marcos and San Miguel. Officials say these actions help reduce land conflicts while making it easier for farmers to obtain financing or pass down properties legally.

The Ministry advances strategies that promote sustainable agricultural development alongside social inclusion initiatives according to its official website. It also issues regulations supporting sustainable agriculture according to its official website and provides programs enhancing food security for producers nationwide since being established by legislation in 2020 according to its official website.
