The Ministry of Education announced on March 13 that a total of 18,703 teachers have advanced in the Public Teaching Career after successfully completing competitions held during 2025. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen a teaching career based on merit, evaluation, and professional development.
The advancement is expected to have a direct impact on the start of the 2026 school year, as thousands of students across the country will begin classes with teachers who have demonstrated their abilities through merit-based evaluations.
“The promotion of more than 18,000 teachers is concrete evidence that meritocracy is a real and sustained public policy. We are recognizing the effort and preparation of our teachers and strengthening the Public Teaching Career as a key element for educational improvement. When a teacher grows professionally, so does the quality of education received by our students,” said Minister of Education Erfurt Castillo.
Of those promoted, 96 percent advanced between the third and eighth levels within the teaching scale. This broadens their opportunities for professional growth within the public education system and allows them to apply for positions with greater responsibility, such as management or specialist roles in education. The ministry said this contributes to strengthening pedagogical leadership in schools nationwide.
The ministry also reported it is working with the Ministry of Economy and Finance to transfer more than 103 million soles to regional governments. This funding will ensure timely implementation of salary improvements resulting from these promotions, which take effect March 1.
Officials say these measures reaffirm their commitment to consolidating teaching as a strategic pillar for national development by promoting a career based on merit and ensuring quality public education for all students in Peru.
