The Ministry of Health announced on March 17 that it has launched a specialized surgical campaign through Minsa Móvil and the Salud en Acción strategy at the Regional Hospital of Pucallpa in Ucayali. The campaign aims to provide timely care for patients who have been waiting for general and laparoscopic surgeries.
This initiative is intended to address the backlog of patients awaiting surgery, particularly in regions with high demand for specialized medical attention. The campaign began on Saturday, March 14, and will continue until Thursday, March 19, in coordination with the Regional Health Directorate and the hospital.
The goal is to perform surgeries on 60 patients between the ages of 20 and 90. These individuals were previously evaluated during a session held from February 3 to February 5, which included medical exams and preoperative tests to ensure safe procedures. Diagnoses being treated include cholecystitis, inguinal and umbilical hernias, hemorrhoids, lipomas, and other conditions requiring specialized surgical intervention.
In the first two days of operations, a multidisciplinary team of 14 health professionals—including general surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff—completed 18 surgeries. Of these patients, 12 have already been discharged without complications after showing favorable recovery. Surgeries are being performed during evening, night, and early morning hours to avoid disrupting regular hospital schedules and make optimal use of operating rooms.
Earlier in 2025 in Ucayali region, two similar surgical campaigns resulted in a total of 74 interventions: 54 cataract surgeries at Amazónico Hospital in Yarinacocha and 20 general surgeries at Pucallpa Regional Hospital. These efforts are part of a broader Ministry of Health strategy aimed at reducing accumulated waitlists so that more patients can access specialized services.
