The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation announced on Apr. 22 that the supply of food at Lima’s wholesale markets remains stable, with increased availability of products such as potatoes, carrots, beans, oranges, pineapples, and prickly pears. The ministry said this situation helps both merchants and consumers access these goods.
Officials reported a total volume of 7,835 tons entering the Gran Mercado Mayorista de Lima (GMML) and the Wholesale Fruit Market No. 2 in La Victoria. At GMML alone, 5,659 tons were received in legumes, vegetables, and tubers. Potato supply reached 1,834 tons—6.2 percent higher than the average for recent Wednesdays—with stock levels remaining high.
Key prices at GMML included carrots at S/0.88 per kilogram; canchan potatoes at S/1.43; macre squash at S/1.45; green broad beans at S/1.65; huayro potatoes at S/1.83; Yungay potatoes at S/2.00; bagged lemons at S/2.08; unique variety potatoes at S/2.03; yellow sweet potato at S/2.08; Peruanita potato at S/2.10; red onion heads at S/2.30; Katia tomatoes at S/2.41 per kilogram among others.
At the Wholesale Fruit Market No. 2 in La Victoria, arrivals totaled 2,176 tons with watermelon priced as low as S/0.80 per kilogram along with other fruits like melons (S/1.19), Valencia oranges (S/1.34), Kent mangoes (S/1.45), regular apples (S/1.56), satsuma mandarins (S/1.73), tangelo oranges from Selva (S/1.84), native avocados (S/1 .85) and more.
The ministry also noted adequate supplies of chicken across Lima distribution centers: live chickens sold for up to S /4 .80 per kilogram while eggs reached a price of S /6 .15 per kilogram due to increased recent supply.
