Ministry reports nearly 12,000 tons of fruits and vegetables supplied to wholesale markets

The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation announced on April 10 that almost 12,000 tons of food were delivered to Lima’s main wholesale markets, with a wide range of products available for traders and consumers.

This level of supply is significant as it helps ensure stable access to essential foods in the city. According to official reports from the ministry, a total of 11,946 tons arrived at the Gran Mercado Mayorista de Lima (GMML) and Mercado Mayorista de Frutas No. 2 de La Victoria.

At the GMML, there was an entry of 9,203 tons of legumes, vegetables, and tubers—38.5% higher than the average over the past four Fridays. The market also received 3,225 tons of potatoes in various varieties, which is up by nearly half compared to recent weeks. Stock levels for key products remain high. Main offerings included carrots at S/0.88 per kilogram; zapallo macre at S/1.45; several potato varieties ranging from S/1.73 to S/2.95; onions at S/2.30; tomatoes at S/2.64; beans at S/2.88; yuca amarilla at S/3; choclo tipo cusco at S/3.69; camote morado at S/4.05 per kilogram among others.

Meanwhile, Mercado de Frutas No.2 saw an influx of 2,743 tons—23.9% more than recent averages—with fruit prices such as watermelon (S/0.80), melon coquito (S/1.25), mango kent (S/1.40), bananas (S/1.47), oranges (S/1.55–S/2.26), apples (S/1.57–S/2.20), avocado (S/1.77), mandarins (S/1 .93) and grapes up to S /3 .78 per kilogram.

Chicken supply was sufficient for retailers and consumers with live chicken sold wholesale for an average price of S /8 .10 per kilogram while eggs sold for about S /6 .20 per kilogram in distribution centers across Lima.

The ministry has also launched a special online platform providing updated prices on staple foods both in wholesale markets and selected retail points throughout Lima: https://siea.midagri.gob.pe /portal/precios.
