The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation announced on April 30 the opening of two new Agrobanco branches in Azángaro and Huancané. The move is intended to improve access to credit for family farmers and reduce financial gaps in remote areas of the Puno region.
These new offices are designed not only as administrative centers but also as drivers of rural development, according to Felipe César Meza Millán, Minister of Agricultural Development and Irrigation. “From the Ministry we are committed to improving the provision of agricultural health services, business plans, market access, technology transfer and above all, timely and accessible financing for small producers,” Meza Millán said.
The Azángaro branch now operates with full autonomy for evaluating and granting loans, which is expected to speed up service for districts such as Achaya, Arapa, Corani, and Usicayos. The Huancané office will focus on supporting key local production chains including cattle fattening, high-quality dairy production, and alpaca fiber improvement.
So far in 2026, more than S/ 34.9 million in credits have been granted through Fondo Agroperú in Puno alone—benefiting over 2,300 producers—with national lending surpassing S/ 226 million this year.
