The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on Apr. 21 that it has started maintenance work on the Eduardo de Habich, Tamboraque III, and Palomar bridges along the Lima–La Oroya section of the Central Highway (national route PE-22).

These preventive measures are intended to strengthen road safety and ensure reliable transit on a key route for passenger and freight transport across Peru.

Work at the Eduardo de Habich bridge includes replacing steel tension cables known as pendolas, repairing slabs, changing longitudinal stops that manage deck movement and absorb vehicle impact, installing special support devices, and making structural adjustments to improve performance. The Tamboraque III bridge, a 45-meter metal structure, will also undergo specific repairs. Maintenance is planned for the Palomar bridge as well, which is built with reinforced concrete beams and spans 23 meters.

The ministry said construction activities are expected to last about 48 days. During this period, traffic management measures will be implemented to minimize restrictions for private vehicles as well as public service transport. “El MTC reafirma su compromiso de seguimiento permanentemente el estado de la infraestructura vial y de adoptar las acciones necesarias para garantizar condiciones seguras de circulación en la Carretera Central, en coordinación con entidades competentes,” said the ministry.

According to the official website, the Ministry of Transport and Communications supports cultural and social wellbeing by improving national connectivity through enhanced infrastructure. The ministry also operates service centers such as MAC Lima Este and MAC Lima Sur to increase public access according to its official website.
