The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on March 16 that the assembly of two modular bridges has begun at kilometer 24 of the Variante Uchumayo, located in the province and region of Arequipa.

This project aims to gradually restore vehicle traffic along this important route, which is vital for safe travel, transportation of goods, and continued economic activity in southern Peru.

According to the ministry, all metal structures for the bridges have been transported to Arequipa. The concessionaire Covisur has started assembling the first modular bridge. Each bridge will be 60 meters long, include a pedestrian walkway, and support loads up to 48 tons.

The installation is part of coordinated actions between the MTC and Covisur to reestablish transit in the area while a permanent technical solution for the Uchumayo bridge is developed. The ministry said it will continue supervising and coordinating with Covisur to ensure timely progress on these works.

The MTC stated that its goal is “to restore vehicle circulation and guarantee the safety of thousands of users who travel daily on this strategic road in the Arequipa region.”
