The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on March 26 that it has started emergency intervention work on the Longitudinal Sierra Highway, Section 2, specifically between Cutervo and Chiple in the Cajamarca region. The work covers the stretch from kilometer 31+140 to kilometer 46+790. This technical action follows a declaration of a road emergency made on March 5.
The intervention aims to restore safe and efficient travel along this route, which is important for thousands of residents and transport workers who rely on the highway for access to basic services and regional commerce.
According to the ministry, heavy machinery such as motor graders, vibratory rollers, front loaders, water tankers, and dump trucks will be used during the operation. The technical plan includes scarifying the road surface to a depth of five centimeters before placing and compacting a ten-centimeter layer of selected granular material. After compaction, dust control measures will be implemented by spraying an additive solution designed to stabilize the platform and reduce airborne particles.
“El MTC salvaguarda el bienestar de la población y potencia el desarrollo económico y social a través de carreteras seguras y operativas,” said representatives from the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
The ministry’s actions are intended not only to address immediate safety concerns but also to support economic activity by ensuring reliable transportation routes.
