The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on Apr. 16 that it is carrying out immediate actions to ensure safety and maintain traffic flow on the PE-14A route at kilometer 111+580 in the Áncash region.

The intervention is considered important as it aims to protect users and keep a key transportation link open following structural damage to the Alpash bridge caused by a natural event. The incident led to erosion of the bridge supports, requiring prompt response to preserve stability.

According to MTC, technical staff and specialized machinery have been deployed for risk mitigation work, including road maintenance, implementation of a provisional controlled passage for vehicles, protective rock placement, and repairs to affected infrastructure. These efforts are part of emergency road response measures involving professionals and field personnel.

At present, vehicle traffic remains restricted and regulated in order to safeguard users while repair work continues. The ministry urges drivers to follow instructions from personnel on site. “El MTC exhorta a los conductores a respetar las indicaciones del personal en la zona y reafirma su compromiso de actuar de manera oportuna para mantener la conectividad y seguridad en la Red Vial Nacional,” said the ministry.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications functions as part of Peru’s executive branch with authority over transport and communications matters according to the official website. It manages infrastructure projects like this one across Peru with goals that include delivering safe, sustainable, and inclusive services for national integration according to the official website.

Since its establishment in 1969, the ministry has advanced connectivity through multimodal approaches and partnerships with public entities according to the official website.
