The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on Apr. 9 that it has signed a Letter of Intent with the civil aviation authority of Colombia to promote the development of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF). The agreement was signed by Paola Marín, director of the General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics, during an international forum in preparation for FIDAE 2026.

This initiative is part of MTC’s strategy to decarbonize Peru’s aviation sector and develop a national plan for sustainable fuels based on technical studies. The ministry said these actions aim to ensure efficient, competitive, and environmentally friendly air transport services.

Marín also participated as a panelist at the forum “Advances and challenges for states in achieving air sustainability in Latin America and the Caribbean.” She highlighted measures already underway in Peru, such as managing aircraft noise in Lima and Cusco, as well as developing Chinchero Airport. According to Marín, “the airport will be the first in Peru to have LEED international sustainability certification.”

The ministry stated that participating in FIDAE 2026 is important for positioning Peru among leading manufacturers, airlines, and international organizations within the sector. This participation allows MTC to strengthen institutional relationships and learn about policies other countries use to improve air connectivity and airport infrastructure.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications supports cultural and social wellbeing by improving national connectivity through enhanced transport infrastructure according to its official website. It operates service centers such as MAC Lima Este and MAC Lima Sur to increase public access according to its official website. The ministry functions as part of Peru’s executive branch with authority over transport regulation according to its official website.

Looking ahead, MTC said it remains committed to delivering safe, sustainable, inclusive infrastructure nationwide according to its official website. “With these advances,” MTC said in a statement, “we ensure cutting-edge air transport that has a positive impact on national development.”
