Ministry of Transport and Communications signs agreement for studies on Longitudinal de la Sierra road

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on Apr. 16 the signing of an agreement to begin definitive engineering studies for improvements along section 2 of the Longitudinal de la Sierra highway.

This initiative is considered important as it aims to strengthen road infrastructure, improve connectivity, and support economic development in regions such as Cajamarca and La Libertad. The project will directly benefit cities including Cajamarca and Trujillo, as well as districts in Chota, Hualgayoc, San Marcos, Cajabamba, Sánchez Carrión, and Otuzco.

According to the MTC statement, seven sub-sections are included: Cochabamba – Chota, Chota – Hualgayoc, Hualgayoc – Desvío Yanacocha, San Marcos – Cajabamba, Sausacocha – Huamachuco, Callacuyán – Shorey and Shorey – Desvío Otuzco. The studies have been assigned to Concesionaria Vial Sierra Norte S.A., with a planned investment exceeding US$8 million. Completion for critical areas is expected within 240 days.

The ministry said this step will enable works both on paved and unpaved sectors covered by the concession contract. It stated that these efforts “will guarantee the safety of users [and] continuity of transport service,” while contributing to national connectivity.
