The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced on Apr. 23 that it has restarted efforts to restore safe travel along the Emp. PE-3ND (Cutervo) – Socota road in the Cajamarca region. The intervention comes after heavy rainfall caused significant disruptions to transit in the area.

Restoring this corridor is important for ensuring safe passage for residents and supporting economic activity in Cutervo and Socota. The ministry said its main goal is to bring back secure conditions for movement along this key route, which spans over 24 kilometers.

Work at the site includes profiling, removing contaminated material, adding granular quarry material, stabilizing the base, and building concrete walls to reinforce road infrastructure. A range of heavy machinery—such as graders, rollers, recyclers, dump trucks, water trucks, and support vehicles—has been deployed to meet project goals. According to the MTC statement, these activities are possible now because current weather conditions are favorable for fieldwork.

The MTC said it is committed to timely response during road emergencies in northern Peru so that communities can travel without difficulties and have access to essential services. “El MTC garantiza la atención oportuna de las emergencias viales en el norte del país, trabajando de manera constante para ofrecer carreteras seguras que permitan a la población de Cutervo y Socota trasladarse sin contratiempos, facilitando así el dinamismo económico y el acceso a servicios esenciales en la región,” according to the ministry.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications supports cultural and social wellbeing by improving national connectivity through enhanced transport infrastructure according to its official website. It also operates service centers such as MAC Lima Este and MAC Lima Sur to improve public access according to its official website. As part of Peru’s executive branch with regulatory authority over transport and communications according to its official website, the ministry aims for safe and inclusive services that promote national integration according to its official website.

Guided by its minister according to its official website, the organization serves communities throughout Peru according to its official website. The MTC manages multimodal infrastructure projects through partnerships with other public entities—a mission ongoing since 1969 according to its official website.
