The Ministry of Transport and Communications announced on May 5 the introduction of a new fleet of 15 eco-friendly buses aimed at renewing the vehicle stock and improving urban connectivity in Lima. The launch was carried out through the Urban Transport Authority for Lima and Callao, with the goal of modernizing public transport to provide citizens with more efficient, safe, and sustainable travel options.
The initiative seeks to facilitate daily commutes by offering improved travel times and higher quality standards for over 2,000 passengers. The buses will operate along a strategic route connecting the districts of Ate, El Agustino, La Molina, San Juan de Lurigancho, and Pachacámac. This route includes high-traffic roads such as Wiesse Avenue, Puente Nuevo, Santa Anita roundabout, and La Molina Avenue.
The first three units from the total fleet were presented during an event that also featured the handover of enabling titles to representatives from transport associations. These titles are described as a technical tool providing legal stability to operators—an important factor for encouraging private investment and supporting ongoing renewal efforts within the sector.
Each bus is equipped with natural gas vehicle technology designed to significantly reduce emissions. They also feature security cameras connected in real time to Cinco Estrella S.A.’s monitoring center for rapid response in case of incidents.
According to the official website, the Ministry supports national connectivity through enhanced infrastructure projects while delivering safe and inclusive services under ministerial guidance. It operates service centers such as MAC Lima Este and MAC Lima Sur across Peru’s communities as part of its role within Peru’s executive branch overseeing transport regulation.
The Ministry said this project represents progress toward a modernized public transportation system focused on sustainability and formalization.
