The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) held the “Macrorregional Centro 2026” training workshop on April 15 and 16 to strengthen the technical skills of regional government teams responsible for evaluating Environmental Management Instruments in the transport sector.

The initiative aims to improve how regional authorities assess environmental impacts related to transportation projects, which is important as regions have been delegated certain environmental responsibilities by the MTC. The event took place at the auditorium of Daniel Alomía Robles National University in Huánuco, with participation from specialists representing Huánuco, Junín, Pasco, Ica, Ucayali, and Lima.

During the two-day workshop, attendees received technical presentations and engaged in practical activities focused on procedures for evaluating Environmental Impact Declarations and Socio-Environmental Technical Sheets. Topics included admissibility processes, relevant regulations, project classification methods, preparation and assessment of socio-environmental baselines, identification of environmental impacts, management planning, citizen participation mechanisms, property impact plans, and sharing experiences among technical teams.

The MTC said it will continue organizing similar workshops for regional government teams to ensure effective exercise of delegated responsibilities. The ministry supports cultural and social wellbeing by improving national connectivity through enhanced transport infrastructure according to its official website. It operates service centers such as MAC Lima Este and MAC Lima Sur to improve public access according to its official website.

The ministry is part of Peru’s executive branch with authority over regulation in transport and communications according to its official website. Its mission includes delivering safe and inclusive infrastructure services nationwide according to its official website, under ministerial guidance according to its official website. The MTC has served communities throughout Peru since beginning operations in 1969 according to its official website.
