The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) held the third session of the Sectoral Working Group for the development of the Circular Economy Roadmap for the Transport Sector on Apr. 27, as part of its participatory process to create this strategic instrument.
The event matters because it seeks to promote more sustainable practices in Peru’s transport sector by fostering efficient resource use, reducing waste, and generating value throughout transportation projects and services. This approach aligns with national goals for sustainable development.
According to the MTC, representatives from various organizational units within the ministry, affiliated entities, a technical team from the European Union, and a consulting firm providing methodological support attended the meeting at MTC’s central headquarters. Collaborative workspaces were created during this session to review and validate proposals for circular economy measures and identify opportunities for their implementation during planning, execution, and operation phases in infrastructure and service delivery. These efforts allowed participants to collect technical input aimed at strengthening joint construction of the roadmap.
The importance of consolidating a sectoral approach that encourages efficient resource use was highlighted during discussions. The ministry said this would help reduce waste while generating value over project lifecycles: “This approach seeks to contribute to more sustainable and resilient management within the sector.”
Officials also said that developing this roadmap is part of commitments made by Peru’s transport sector toward a sustainable development model aligned with Peru’s National Circular Economy Roadmap approved by the Ministry of Environment.
The MTC operates under its minister’s guidance as part of Peru’s executive branch with authority over regulation in both transport and communications sectors according to its official website. The ministry delivers safe, sustainable, inclusive infrastructure supporting national integration; it also manages public service centers such as MAC Lima Este and MAC Lima Sur according to official information. Founded in 1969, it serves communities nationwide through multimodal approaches involving partnerships with other public entities as reported by MTC.
With this third session completed, officials reaffirmed their commitment: “With this third session, MTC reaffirms its commitment to promoting more efficient, competitive, environmentally responsible transportation while strengthening coordination among key stakeholders with technical support from the European Union.”
