The Ministry of Transport and Communications held a series of work meetings led by Vice Minister of Transport Juan del Carmen Haro Muñoz on May 6, together with Congressman Diego Bazán Calderón and the mayors of Santiago de Chuco Province, Víctor Luján Chero, and Moche District, Roberto Chávez Olivo. The meetings focused on advancing road projects in the La Libertad region to improve connectivity and safety in northern Peru.

These discussions are important as they address efforts to move infrastructure projects from planning stages to actual implementation, which can benefit thousands of users and transport workers. Improved roads are expected to facilitate travel, support local economies, and enhance access for communities in the area.

During the meeting, officials reported that Terms of Reference for maintenance work on the Shorey – Santiago de Chuco highway will be completed in May. A technical meeting will also be organized to explain this process to local mayors and civil society representatives. Regarding maintenance along the Panamericana Norte (Ovalo La Marina – Puente Santa), it was noted that different segments fall under separate concessions—Red Vial 4 and Autopista del Sol—requiring specific coordination between parties. A meeting is planned with Autopista del Sol’s concessionaire to review technical needs for one segment before starting engineering studies.

The Ministry operates under Peru’s executive branch with authority over transport and communications matters according to the official website. It aims to deliver safe, sustainable infrastructure while promoting national integration. The Ministry also supports social wellbeing by improving connectivity through its various service centers such as MAC Lima Este and MAC Lima Sur across Peru.

With these actions, officials say they reaffirm their role as facilitators for regional development by ensuring that road projects progress toward execution for public benefit.
